Here’s the chart showing No. of Posts by the different Bloggers from TechCrunch:

(Aside: ‘Others’, ofcourse, included 6 (”SIX!”) whole posts from Steve Gillmor that I haven’t been able to make the slightest sense of. There were actually 41 bloggers who had contributed atleast one article, with 13 writing just a single guest post)
Now, here’s the Top Commentors graph I “should” have shown off yesterday, but didn’t:

Notice anything (besides Steve Gillmor being at Rank 1663 with just 18 comments :P) here? Note the Black Bars – Micheal Arrington had to work pretty darn hard to get TechCrunch to where it is. He has twice the number of posts as the next one (Duncan Riley), and twice the number of comments as the next commentator. And the behind the scenes effort is unthinkably big too…
Whatever you think of him, he’s a pretty hardworking chap, no? Maybe, that’s why TechCrunch is popular? I guess working your ass off is guaranteed to produce results, whatever your field maybe ![]()

It would be interesting to see if the Arrington dominance has changed over time as TechCrunch grew. I bet his % of posts ratio declines as new people come on vs. when he first started TC.

Sorry buddy - this analysis makes no sense. How can you compare Mike’s number of posts directly to anyone else on TC? He’s the only one who has written since day 1.
In fact, if you ran your report again for say the last 1 year, I’d bet Duncan would be first and then Mike/Erick would be nearly tied. It’s also incorrect to assume that more posts = success.
This is not to say that Mike doesn’t bust his arse (he does) or that the other writers don’t (which you seem to imply, which is wrong).
To be honest, I think you should stick to pulling the charts (which you are very good at) and leave the analysis to someone with more experience. I find the analysis on nearly all of your posts suspect.

huh? as another poster wrote, this “analysis” makes little sense. i’m not even sure about the intended purpose. but it’s eminently confusing. unless you intended it to be clickbait?

What would be interesting is a time-wise breakdown to see what percentage of TC’s posts does Mike Arrington contribute and how that has changed over time

Allen is right, but maybe you should analyze the same thing over the period of time all main writers were together writting to have a comparable basis. maybe you should also compare the number of comments generated by each one. this may give a different view

@Allen: I’m not implying the others didn’t slog - I just made simple statement: “Mike Arrington is Popular because he worked hard. So, if you work hard, you WILL be popular”. That is all I implied.

You should spend some more time on Steve Gillmor’s posts as if you got the logic in those posts you would realize why your comparison is so full of illogical rubbish
Right now its just link bait..

All you have to do is to plot each of Mikes blog posts and comments against time and you will see that the frequency never lets up and that he never sleeps, and it has been that way for 3 years now.

Certainly Michael has (and I’m sure continues to) work extraordinarily hard. Why do you rag on Gillmor? That isn’t nice.

Guys who just replied above, I wonder if you have actually checked this sites about section “The Statbot is dedicated to bringing out interesting and fun stats about web communities and popular folks.” - Fun Stats about Web Communities & Popular Folks!! Hope you got it now.!!
Now don’t go on moaning about saying stats wasn’t interesting or illogical, it was fun to know what went on and you can learn from statistics he has published if you don’t wanna read his post, view the graph and decide your outcome.
What do you expect more from a wannabe-geek 17 yrs old! I really appreciate him for making it so long! And I agree with Sriram, if you can come up with time-based break down.. it should be interesting!

Many of the comments for this post suggest that it would be interesting to see the author posting history over time. Well here it is:
